Before this project, Picnic Performances didn't have a defined visual identity, only a recognizable purple-green gradient. My challenge was to build on that foundation, evolving it into a cohesive visual system while preserving what audiences already associated with the event.

Ideation of the concept

Looking down at the park, I noticed how picnic blankets formed a soft grid across the lawn. That observation became the foundation: structure paired with movement, geometry softened by organic form. The system draws from the angular legacy graphics while introducing layered, fluid elements that reflect the park’s communal energy.

Building the Foundation

A system of grids, both rigid and more fluid, laid the groundwork for the identity. These studies explore how structure generates shape and forms the backbone of the visual language, balancing structure and flow.

Exploration

With a defined visual language in place, structure and organic forms begin to merge. Grids are juxtaposed, rotated, trimmed, scaled, and manipulated to generate precise patterns that reflect the spirit of Picnic Performances.

Drafts and mockups explore how the patterns live across posters, merchandise, and digital spaces, testing scale, composition, and color to ensure the identity holds together across every format.
